2023: Peter Obi top candidate for president, new Bloomberg poll reveals
Fifteen days before Nigeria’s general elections, the Labour party, (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi is still the top choice to emerge as the nation’s next president, according to a new poll by Bloomberg.
Premise Data Corporation’s poll results for Bloomberg News were released on Friday.
In a race where other front-runners Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would fiercely contest, the poll found that two-thirds of respondents said they intended to vote for Obi.
The San Francisco-based Premise claimed to have conducted a smartphone app survey of 2,384 Nigerians from January 26 to February 4; entries were chosen from quotas established by age, gender, and location throughout the country’s six geopolitical zones.
Bloomberg added that in order to assure national representation, the results were weighted in comparison to the initial quotas.
According to the poll results, among the decided voters, Obi scored 66%; Tinubu scored 18%, and Atiku scored 10%.
Meanwhile, for the undecided voters, Obi scored 47%; Tinubu scored 27%, and Atiku scored 9%.
“Of the 93% of participants who said they’ve decided how to vote, 66% named Obi as their preferred choice,” Bloomberg said.
Recall that in an earlier Premise poll conducted by Bloomberg in September as the official election campaign began, Obi received a little higher 72% of the respondents who were decided.
