CAF Kick Out Kenya, Zimbabwe From AFCON 2023
The qualifiers for the Africa Cup Of Nations 2023 will kick off on the first day of June 2022.
The Confederation Of African Football Caf has confirmed that Kenya and Zimbabwe will not take part in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as a result of their failure to have their suspensions lifted by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
The qualifiers for the Africa Cup Of Nations 2023 will kick off on the first day of June 2022.
CAF had included them in the official draw for April 2022 on the condition that the suspension is lifted two weeks before their first match.
Kenya and Zimbabwe, both suspended for political interference, have yet to meet the FIFA Congress’s criteria for lifting their suspensions.
The implications of both Nation’s expulsion according to CAF statement:
- The two associations; Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)will be considered losers and eliminated from the competition.
- Groups C and K will be composed only of three teams and the order of the matches will be maintained in accordance with the match schedule that has been communicated to the teams after the draw.
- The first and runner-up teams of those groups will qualify for the final tournament.
