The ruling All Progressive Congress party (APC). candidate Biodun Oyebanji has been declared the winner of the Ekiti state governorship election held on 18th, June 2022 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Oyebanji and his party received 187,057 votes, defeating his two closest rivals, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

 

The SDP came second in the polls with 82,211 votes, while the PDP finished third with 67,457 votes.

This victory means that APC has retained power in Ekiti state. Oyebanji will replace incumbent Governor Kayode Fayemi in October.

 

However, only 363,438 people were registered to vote.

 

The polls opened at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and were scheduled to close at 2:30 p.m.
