Voters scamper for safety as masked thugs PU in Lagos

 

Suspected masked thugs stormed polling units (PU)  in Lagos state at ward D, Igando/Ikotun neighbourhood.

 

On Saturday the 18th of march, Nigerians from all over the nation stepped out to vote in the gubernatorial and state assembly elections.

 

While voter apathy was an issue everywhere, violence was rife in some states, particularly in Lagos.

The thugs, who were armed with sticks and knives, chased away voters from polling units (PU) in the Ijegun community school, according to NAN.

 

According to reports, the thugs were riding motorcycles and moving from one voting location to another to eject voters.

 

To get to safety, several of the voters had to jump the school fence.

096, 116, 281, 094, 095, and 084 are among the affected voting units.

 

The same thugs who attacked the woman for snapping pictures also attacked another polling unit at Awonisi Gate on Ijegamo Road.

 

Her phone and her ATM cards were taken by the attackers, and another man who attempted to confront the criminals was attacked and hurt.

The majority of the voters, including those who had been accredited, allegedly fled the polling units and didn’t come back after the thugs departed the area.

According to reports, a police patrol team was informed of the circumstance and was later observed coming to the scene.

 

One of the patrol team officers was quoted as saying “why did they call us after the crisis has died down? They should have called earlier”.
