Jonathan Ukodhiko, Delta State’s immediate past commissioner for energy, has secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the Isoko Federal House of Representatives in the upcoming 2023 general elections, according to reports.
The primary election was held on Sunday at the Oleh township stadium, the headquarters of the state’s Isoko South Local Government Area, amid tight security.
One of the adhoc delegates who benefited from Ukodhiko’s rain of naira told SaharaReporters that the ex-commissioner paid Adhoc delegates N2 million each in the state’s Isoko South and Isoko North local government areas, but that not all of the delegates received the money.
Ukodhiko, the appointed candidate of incumbent House of Representatives member and former minority leader Leo Ogor for the Isoko federal constituency, received 33 votes to secure the party’s ticket.
He defeated Askia Ogieh, the former Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), who received 21 votes.
Itiako Ikpokpo Malik, the immediate past chairman of Isoko South council, received three votes in the primary election, while Johnson Erijo, a former aide to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, received two votes.
Dickson Ebegbare Fineboy, another former governor’s aide, received five votes.
Ukodhiko addressed the press shortly after the results were announced, thanking delegates and the Isoko people for their faith in him. If elected in the general elections in 2023, he promised not to disappoint the people of Isoko in the National Assembly.
In the meantime, Ossai Nicholas Ossai, the incumbent member of the Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal House of Representatives, was defeated by Nmadi Ezechi.
